Afrin Sultana Asha


Research Associate -I

Afrin Sultana has a Master of Social Science degree in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University. She is experienced in mix-method research. She is a development researcher with hands on experience in quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis, producing final reports and presenting the findings in an articulated way. She has almost 5 years of research experience in social research including education, gender issues, women empowerment, urban poverty, climate change and local adaptation strategies, food security, legal issues and social safety-net issues. She has experience of working with BBC Media Action, Edu-smart.info, Save the Children, BRAC University and other local and international organizations. 


Anindya Barai


Research Assistant

Anindya Barai has a Bachelor degree in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University. He has competitive experience and skill in mix-method research.He has experience on quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis, making research reports. He has 2 years of experience in social research including public health, nutrition, gender and women empowerment, education, urban poverty, and social safety-net issues. He has experience of working with BRAC University(BIGH) as Assistant Researcher. He is currently working as a Research Assistant at dRi.


H.M. Shahid Hassan


Research Assistant

H.M. Shahid Hassan is working as a research assistant and has a Master degree in Geography & Environment from Jahangirnagar University. He is an experienced researcher who was involved in various research projects since his student life. He has almost 2 years of research experience in the field of social science. Mr. Hassan has good command over SPSS (statistical package for social science), Arc. GIS (Mapping and spatial data analysis), STATA and ERDAS imaging (Satellite image analysis). He takes interest in quantitative research in the arenas of disaster management, climate change and adaptation, food security, poverty and sustainable development. He has a vast range of working experience with university of Dhaka, Dignity (Danish institute against torture), Edinburgh University, Jahangirnagar university, UNDP, Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR), ADB, World Bank and other local & international organizations.


Irteza Ahmed


Research Associate-II

Mr. Irteza has a Master degree in Anthropology and he is an expert in mix-method research. He is a development researcher with hands on experience on quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis, preparing final reports and making presentation. He has more than 5 years of experience in social research including public health, nutrition, gender, women empowerment, urban poverty, climate change and local adaptation strategies, food security and social safety-net issues. He worked with renowned organizations such as r BRAC and the Nielsen Company (Bangladesh) Limited. Moreover, his experience and credentials have been enriched by his association with a wide range of organizations like BRAC University, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Manchester, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Food Program (WFP), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Plan International, Save the Children, Winrock International, Social Marketing Company (SMC), British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) and so on.


James Sujit Malo


Research Assistant

Mr. James Sujit Malo has completed his BSS honors and MSS in Sociology from the University of Dhaka. He is working as a novice in the post a Research Assistant at Development Research Initiative (dRi). His expedition in the research field started for academic purposes has been initiated by his recruitment at dRi. With his adeptness in both qualitative and quantitative study, he is supporting the research team entitled to him by the authority. His criterion in social research disseminates to poverty and deprivation, excluded community, tea workers, evangelization and so on. He has experience in working with SEHD, icddr,b, and so on. With a view to assisting in data collecting, monitoring field workers, data transcribing, translating, questionnaire development, and report writing, he is working with dRi professionals since the middle of 2017.


Jubaida Islam


Research Assistant

Ms. Jubaida Islam joined dRi as a Research Assistant after completing her Bachelor’s Degree from American International University - Bangladesh. She has been successfully supporting research teams that deploy qualitative and quantitative methodologies in a number of projects. Her research experiences cover different sectors such as education, child marriage, child abuse and exploitation, legal rights and social development. Her expertise includes data processing and transcription of qualitative information.


Mamun-Ur-Rashid


Mr. Md. Mamun-Ur-Rashid is the Executive Director of Development Research Initiative (dRi) and a senior level qualitative research expert. He has more than twelve years of experience in the field of social research. He has expertise in designing research plan, research instrument development and coordinating field research. He has contributed in numerous assignments including situation analysis, needs assessment, baseline assessment, mid-term and impact evaluations of development projects. He has proven track records of working in all districts of the country including socially and politically sensitive areas like Cox’s Bazar and Narayanganj, hard-to-reach areas of Barguna, Potuakhali, Khulna and Rangamati and low income settlements in Dhaka, Chittagong and Comilla. His area of specialization includes – gender and inequality, poverty and vulnerability, public health, food security, food price volatility, urban challenges, climate change, gender, livelihood, social safety nets and other development issues. He has worked for both academic institutions such as BRAC University, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Manchester, and development partners including the World Bank, World Food Program (WFP), Oxfam, BRAC and Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) among others.


Md. Akteruzzaman


Senior Research Associate -I

Mr. Akteruzzaman has more than 15 years of experience in research and development programs. He has a long professional career with different institutions that include BRAC Development Institute (BDI) and Department of Architecture of BRAC University, Verulam Associates Bangladesh, Research and Evaluation Division (RED) of BRAC and Mitra and Associates. He is currently working with Development Research Initiative (dRi) as Senior Research Associate-II. He is widely experienced in mix-method research and has special expertise in quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing, analysis and producing reports.  Besides, he also worked in the fields of climate change and local adaptation strategies, urban and rural poverty, infrastructure, agriculture, food security, migration, gender, women empowerment, legal issues and social safety-net.


Md. Ali Newaz Khan


Junior Research Associate

Mr. Khan is a Master of Philosophy from Dhaka College. He is experienced in quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis, and producing final reports. He has almost 2.5 years of research experience in social research including nutrition, gender violence and women empowerment, urban poverty, microfinance, agriculture, livelihood, enterprise, food security and social safety-net issues. Apart from these he worked with BRAC University, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD). Currently he is working as a junior research associate at Development Research Initiative (dRi).


Md. Ashraful Alam


Junior Research Associate

Md. Ashraful Alam is a Master of Development Studies and is currently working as a research associate in dRi. He is a development researcher with hands on experience on quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data analysis and report writing. He has almost two years of research experience in social research in the arenas of gender, women empowerment, urban poverty, microfinance, resettlement, food security and social safety-net issues.


Md. Faruq Hossain


Junior Research Associate

Faruq Hossain is working with dRi as a Junior Research Associate. Before joining here he worked at Research and Evaluation, BRAC. He pursued his Bachelor and Master degree in Anthropology from the department of Anthropology, University of Rajshahi. He is capable of performing both qualitative and quantitative researches. He has strong background in social research which involves research design, instrument development, training of interviewers, analysis of qualitative data, report writing and seminar presentation. He has also some professional course and basic training on qualitative and quantitative research methodology from country’s prominent institution like James P Grant School of Public Health, University of Dhaka and Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology. 


Md. Kamrul Hasan


Junior Research Associate

Md. Kamrul Hasan has a Master degree in Anthropology from Dept. of Anthropology, Jahangirnagar University and is an expert in mix-method research. He is a development researcher with hands on experience on quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis, producing final reports and presenting the findings in an articulated way. He has almost 3 years of research experience in social research including public health, nutrition, gender and women empowerment, urban poverty, child rights, climate change and local adaptation strategies, food security and social safety-net issues, Microfinance. He has experience of writing Ethnography.  He worked at Data Analysis and Technical Assistance (DATA) and is working at Development Research Initiative (dRi).


Md. Mohiuddin Khan


Research Associate-II

Mr. Khan completed his post-graduation degrees from the University of Dhaka in Public Administration and International Economic Relations respectively. His area of expertise includes project monitoring, evaluation and implementation, financial management, proposal writing, contract assessment and procurement. He worked in international development projects like PROSPER of DFID. He has experience on qualitative research- Focus Group Discussion as well as baseline survey and report writing. He has trained many NGOs to operate their programs following rules and regulations. He has experience of working to implement government program of implementing National Integrity Strategy 2012 (Jatiyo Shudhachar Koushol).


Mehnaz Morshed


Research Associate – II

Mehnaz Morshed specialises in global development affairs with double masters in the discipline. She has completed her master in International Development: Environment, Climate Change and Development from The University of Manchester along with being a Chevening Scholar, and also in Development Management and Practice from BRAC University. With a four year experience in research and programme she is currently Research Associate – II at dRi, where she is responsible for planning and designing research projects, conducting training sessions, analysing primary data for reports and also maintaining communication with different stakeholders. Apart from work, Ms. Morshed is passionate about karate, photography and fire spinning and loves to keep busy with her extra-curricular activities.


Meraz Ahmed


Research Associate-I

Mr. Meraz Ahmed has a Master degree in Economics and his current position is Research Associate-1. He is working in the research field since 2011 and has expertise on qualitative and quantitative research methodology and techniques. He has been engaged with different research projects related to child and human rights, democracy, accountability, governance, education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, agriculture, disaster management, food security, social safety net, urban poverty and market/enterprise based research. He has experience of working with BRAC University, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Manchester, World Bank, World Food Program (WFP), World Fish, Care Bangladesh, USAID, Plan International, Save the Children, Innovation for Poverty Action (IPA), Young Consultant (YC) and other local and international organizations.


Moniruzzaman


Research Associate-I

Mr. Moniruzzaman is a Master of Bangla and is experienced in mix-method research. With over six years of experience in research activities, he has an expertise in quantitative and qualitative research tools development, field management, data processing and analysis, qualitative and quantitative data collection, monitoring and supervising research team and ensuring data quality. He worked in the fields of s nutrition, women empowerment, urban poverty, climate change and local adaptation strategies, food security and social safety-net. He worked with BRAC University, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Manchester, World Bank, World Food Program (WFP), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Save the Children and other local and international organizations. Currently he is working as Research Associate-1 at dRi.


Nahid Hasan


Research Associate-II

Mr. Nahid Hasan has a Master degree in Anthropology from Dept. of Anthropology, Jahangirnagar University. He is an expert in mix-method research and resettlement. He is a development researcher with hands on experience in quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis, producing final reports, presenting the findings and overall Project Management. He has almost 6 years of research experience in social research including resettlement issue, public health, nutrition, gender and women empowerment, urban poverty, child rights, climate change and local adaptation strategies, food security, social safety-net issues, microfinance and legal aid service. He is also skilled at using the data analysis software like SPSS and STATA. He has experience of producing reports including Social Impact Assessment (SIA), Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), Ethnography and final reports of different research projects.  He worked with Population Council and BRAC University and is currently working as the Research Associate-II at Development Research Initiative (dRi).


Raju Ahammed


Senior Finance and Admin Officer-I

Mr. Raju Ahammed has a Master of Arts in Islamic History from Rajshahi University. His responsibilities   as a senior finance and administrative officer include day to day administrative and financial issues, finance and accounts related activities including banking, keeping records of all types of inventory, preparing financial reports for the donors as required, maintaining communication with different donors for various research projects and communication with other organizations as and when needed. He has also experience in social research to include quantitative and qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis. He has almost 12 years of programme implementation experience in Targeting the ultra-poor (TUP) & research experience in resettlement, rehabilitation and livelihood restoration of development interventions, gender and women empowerment, urban poverty, urban slums dwellers, disaster management, climate change and local adaptation strategies, food security and social safety-net issues. He worked with, BRAC, BRAC University, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Manchester, World Bank, World Food Program (WFP), Save the Children, Oxfam, Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and other local and international organizations. 


Sabbir Ahmed Dhali

Mr. Sabbir Ahmed, a Master of Anthropology is an expert in mix-method research. He is a development researcher with hands on experience at quantitative and qualitative research tools development, field management, report writing and presenting the findings in an articulated way. He has almost 3 years of research experience in social research including maternal health, nutrition, gender and women empowerment, urban poverty, climate change impacts and local adaptation strategies, and social safety-net issues. He has worked with BRAC (RED), BRAC University, D-net, Plan International and Data search.


Shakila Sharmin


Junior Research Associate

Ms. Shakila Sharmin has 3 years of experience in large scale qualitative research. She has accomplished her post-graduation in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University. She is well conversant with  developing various qualitative research tools, organizing field research, data processing, analysing and producing final reports. She has done social research on a variety of issues including pollution, climate change and resilience, indigenous adaptations, social conflict, women empowerment, gender based violence, livelihood program, food security and nutrition, urban development, primary education, legal aid services etc. She worked with BARCIK, Bangladesh Legal Aid Services and Trust (BLAST), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Food Program (WFP), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), DFID, and Save the Children.


Shameem Reza Khan


Senior Research Associate -I I

Shameem Reza Khan is an expert in mix-method research and has a Master degree in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University. He is currently working as a Research Associate at dRi and is widely experienced in quantitative and qualitative research tool development and field management. His expertise includes data processing, analysis and producing final reports for the study. He has almost 10 years of research experience in social research with special focus  on challenging and often sensitive issues that include policing, climate change and local adaptation strategies, migration, education, gender, women empowerment, urban poverty, food security, legal issues and social safety-net. On each of these issues, he had the opportunity to work both at the policy level as well as the implementation level in Bangladesh. He has long experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds and perceptions that has enhanced his ability to work with and manage multicultural teams. His professional and academic background has afforded him the opportunity to become familiar with the consolidated and unconsolidated challenges of development sector. He has worked with many national and international NGOs and research organizations such as, Save the Children, icddrb, BRAC, BRAC Development Institute (BDI), Plan International Bangladesh, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), The Asia Foundation, GIZ, World Vision and other organizations. His vision is to continue working in development programs, primarily focusing on facilitating expansion and adaptation of interventions to better address the needs of groups and communities. 


Sharmin Akhter


Research Assistant 

Sharmin Akhter is a Master of Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University and is a qualitative research expert. She is a development researcher with hands on experience in qualitative research tool development, field management, data processing and analysis and producing reports. She has almost 3 years of experience in social research including public health, nutrition, gender and women empowerment, food security and social safety-net issues. She has the experience of working with World Food Program (WFP), Plan International, Save the Children, World Bank, Room to Read, Care Bangladesh, Action Aid, Oxford Policy Management, Social Marketing Company (SMC) and other local and international organizations. She has experience of presenting research papers in International Conferences, making documentary and attending workshops on Gender issues, Right to Information, Advocacy-lobbing-fund rising, Documentation, Communication & Media and Disability & Rights.


SK Tanvir Hassan


Research Associate-I

SK Tanvir Hassan completed his BSS and MSS in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University. He is working as a Research Associate at the Development Research Initiative (dRi) since February, 2015. Previously he worked at BRAC University, D-net, Plan Bangladesh, BRAC(RED), Asia Foundation and other local and International Organizations. From his research experience in various research organizations he has gained expertise on research design, research methodology, qualitative and quantitative research methods, analysis and report writing. He is interested in market or enterprise based research, gender inequality, social safety-net, food security, climate change, disability and child rights. He has sound knowledge on SPSS, STATA and ODK (open data kit) software.


Tazia R Khushboo


Research Associate-II

Tazia R. Khushboo is working as a researcher for Development Research Initiative (dRi). She has completed her Master in Development Studies from BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University and Bachelor of Social Science in economics from the Department of Economics and Social Sciences, BRAC University. Tazia has experience in questionnaire development, statistical data analysis and quantitative and qualitative report writing. She has expertise and special skills at using STATA, SPSS, Prezi.com, MS Excel VBA and MaxQDA. She also worked with BRAC Development Institute (BDI, currently BIGD) of BRAC University and the Department of Economics and Social Sciences, BRAC University. 


Zabir Hossain

He has experience of working with BRAC (HRLs program). He is now working as Junior Research Associate at dRi (Development Research Initiative).
