At this month’s Knowledge Sharing session, our dedicated Researcher team took the spotlight, sharing their invaluable field experiences specially working in the Rohingya camp. They provided profound insights into the challenges they faced and the achievements they made during the evaluation of the Population Movement Operation (PMO) WASH Program. Let’s delve into their journey and discover the remarkable stories they shared.
During the session, the team presented an overview of the PMO WASH Program, which aimed to address the needs of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (FDMN) in the Rohingya camp in Bangladesh. The program focused on three crucial components: providing drinkable water, ensuring adequate sanitation facilities and treatment, and disseminating essential hygiene messages. Moreover, the integration of protection, gender sensitivity, and inclusion aspects, such as Menstrual Hygiene Management and safety measures for women and children, demonstrated the commitment to holistic support. Environmental sustainability efforts were also incorporated into the program since 2020.
Our dedicated field team played a pivotal role in assessing the relevance, coverage, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the PMO WASH Program. Tasked with evaluating activities, systems, management, and coordination, they provided valuable insights into the program’s impact on the population movement in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The team’s journey was not without hurdles, as they faced challenges during their stay, including navigating the aftermath of Cyclone Mocha and the complexities of recruiting local enumerators and researchers because of the cyclone situation. Nevertheless, they shared their resilience and innovative strategies for managing these difficulties effectively.
