The study aimed at understanding the situation and demographics of children in institutional care arrangements in Bangladesh, as well as the capacity of these institutions to provide care. It was a mixed methods study with comprehensive mapping and estimating children and adolescents in alternative care. However, no child or adolescent in the care facilities was interviewed or surveyed; rather, data were gathered from facility staff and managers as well as a sample of family members of children in alternative care institutions. Moreover, Other individuals that were included in the primary data collection effort include service providers, government officials, and other relevant stakeholders. The observations and recommendations drawn from the study findings were utilized to create a family-based care model and a mechanism for periodic follow-up.
In this assignment, dRi field team consisting of enumerators moved to the field for conducting a comprehensive mapping of childcare facilities considering the measurement of key indicators on total number and specific demographics of children (age, sex, disabilities), characteristics of facility staff, and infrastructure and services of the facilities, etc. dRi selected upazilas randomly from 08 randomly selected districts (01 districts per division) from 08 divisions. dRi conducted 66 In-depth Case Studies, 16 IDIs, 29 KIIs, 56 Observations with relevant stakeholders. Moreover, 560 comprehensive alternative care mapping using SurveyCTO platform through tablet.
