dRi conducted data collection for the study titled ASER BIGD School Survey for BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) administering Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) questionnaire. With schools and colleges closed for an extended period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students have encountered and continue to face numerous challenges in their studies. This study aims to gather information from children aged 5-18 years and their parents/guardians regarding the obstacles they have encountered in their education journey.
The primary objective of the study was to assess students’ proficiency in basic mathematics, Bengali, and English. Data collection was carried out utilizing the ASER questionnaire, a widely used tool for evaluating education quality, reading capaility and learning outcomes. The questionnaire covers various aspects of education, including enrollment rates, attendance, infrastructure, teacher presence, and crucially, the learning levels of children in reading, writing, and arithmetic. For this particular study, 500 Parent-Child Pair surveys were conducted across five districts of Bangladesh using the SurveyCTO platform. This endeavor seeks to provide valuable insights into the educational landscape, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and targeted interventions to address the challenges faced by students and improve overall educational outcomes.
