The Hunger Project-Bangladesh (THP-BD) started a program named “The Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism” (BRAVE) to counter the growing radicalization and violent extremism in Bangladesh through a community-led approach which addresses the drivers of radicalization and violence. The project has bridged two generations by creating a group of mentors from political, religious and social leaders, and at the same time creating a group of Prevent Violent Extremism (PVE) activists from youths and women. This project was carried out in 24 Unions and two Municipalities of three Upazilas under Bagerhat District of southern Bangladesh where heightened level of religious and political intolerance has been experienced in recent years.
The overall objective of this end line study is to see the changes of knowledge, attitude and perception of the study respondents regarding radicalization and extremism and to ascertain the type of fundamentalism existing in the research area. dRi conducted 732 Surveys, 10 FGDs, 19 KIIs, 10 IDIs and 5 Case studies in study areas. The findings from the study will assess the progress of the capacities, efficiency and effectiveness of youth groups, women and elderly leaders are addressing issues around extremism and also assess the progress of knowledge and awareness level of the community about identity-based prejudices, hate speech & hate crime.
