Collaborating with CMI, dRi conducted field research on sand extraction and transport in Durgapur. This research entailed ethnographic observations of extraction and transport practices and 30 interviews and 4 Focus group discussions (sand labour, transport labour, nearby community 1, nearby community 2) on extraction and transport. Interview guides were supplied by the CMI project PI (Bert Suykens) and training on the project and the research tools were organized before the fieldwork started. The research team adhered to the ethical principles central to research on contested resources: anonymity, confidentiality, and protection of informants.
