This study was conducted for an initial assessment of the status of women’s economic empowerment in Bangladesh context. The main objectives of this study were to understand the present status of women’s economic empowerment in Bangladesh context, identify the factors that enable and disabled women to join the formal and informal labor force, assess the motivation and skills of women who join formal and informal labor force, understand the barriers that affect women’s joining the formal/informal sector jobs and assess the present status of and barrier to asset ownership (both productive and non-productive) and realization of inheritance rights by women. This qualitative study was conducted in rural and urban areas of Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal.
