dRi recently organized an engaging session titled ‘Illustration of Expression,’ where we presented our findings from our in-depth exploration of the fascinating world of Dhaka’s wall paintings and graffiti.
During this session, we guided our audience through the historical evolution of wall painting and graffiti and the meaning and inspiration behind these artworks. The discussion and photographs prompted the audience to consider various aspects of the psychology of the human mind, the societal aspects of graffiti and wall paintings, its emotional significance, and how it has changed over time to reflect collective sentiments and experiences.

The languages and colors used are significant, and reflect the artists’ emotions, cultural values, and social messages. Wall paintings in Dhaka are both an art form and a medium for social change. Artists employ a variety of mediums to convey powerful themes of religion, identity, and heritage. In this city, walls have become a vibrant canvas for graffiti that disregards conventional grammar, reflecting the diverse participation of individuals from all walks of life.
