We were thrilled to host an insightful session today at dRi in observance of River Day, featuring our Friend of dRi, Iftekhar Mahmud bhai, Special Correspondent at Daily Prothom Alo. We are also immensely proud of his recent recognition with the Mark Angelo River Award 2024in the journalist category. Congratulations to him on this remarkable achievement!

In today’s session, Iftekhar bhai shared his deep knowledge on the subject of নদী, নদী কেন্দ্রিক মানুষ, ভূমি ও রাজনীতি” (Rivers, River-Centric People, Land, and Politics). He delved into how rivers have shaped the political landscape of Bangladesh throughout different eras and how the lives of riverine communities are intertwined with these changes. He also explored how the formation of land near coastal areas has impacted political movements and offered a unique perspective on the political dynamics of Bangladesh’s vibrant delta communities.

This session has left us with much to reflect on, especially regarding the deep and lasting connections between rivers, their people, and the political forces they shape. The conversation continues as we look at the future of our river systems and their profound impact on our society.
