Every year, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign, led by UN Women, serves as a powerful reminder of the widespread violence faced by women and girls worldwide. According to UN News, 1 in 3 women globally experience GBV, highlighting the urgency of collective action to address this crisis.

To mark this important occasion, dRi organized a session on 10th December, featuring Dr. Rezwana Karim Snigdha, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Jahangirnagar University, Gender Expert, and a friend of dRi. During the session, Dr. Snigdha spoke about the pressing issues of gender-based violence, focusing on three key priorities: child marriage, cyberbullying related to GBV, and female genital mutilation. She also explored other forms of violence, including structural, cultural, psychosocial, and physical violence, providing insights into how these forms of abuse manifest and impact lives. Dr. Snigdha addressed the alarming rise of femicide, both in Bangladesh and globally, stressing the need for stronger laws and social change to protect women from gender-based violence.

This session served as a reminder of the ongoing challenges and the collective responsibility to advocate for a safer, violence-free world. At dRi, we are proud to contribute to the conversation and stand in solidarity with global efforts to end GBV.
