Bangladesh is a fast-growing economy powered by the readymade garments (RMG) industry which has promoted the country in the world. In order to improve the technical skills and productivity of RMG workers and enhance the environmental and social compliance of RMG factories “Promoting Green Growth in the RMG Sector through Skills (PROGRESS)” a four-year program is implanted by Swisscontact. The program aims to contribute to the development of an inclusive, environmentally responsible, and competitive RMG sector that can offer secure and decent job opportunities, especially to women workers, while adapting to the changing demands of the global market in terms of technology and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. The program aims to achieve two primary objectives over a four-year project duration.
The initial objective is to enhance the technical competencies and efficiency of workers in the RMG sector, with a focus on empowering 60% of women, in order to boost their job retention and income levels. The second goal is to elevate the productivity and ensure environmental and social compliance in Tier-2 and Tier-3 RMG factories while also creating favorable employment opportunities for their workforce. PROGRESS seeks to make a positive impact on 7,500 RMG workers, with a notable focus on benefiting 60% of women, by enhancing job stability and income levels through improved skills and productivity. Furthermore, the program aims to enhance the working conditions for 15,000 workers, including 60% women, by elevating productivity standards and ensuring environmental and social compliance within their factory settings. To achieve these goals, the program will work in cooperation with Local Technical Consultancy Providers (LTCPs) and employers to enhance their knowledge and implementation of in-house training systems.
