dRi, in joint venture with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) as lead partner, conducted a comprehensive Contribution Analysis to evaluate the impact of GAIN’s multi-donor Nourishing Food Pathways (NFP) programme on food systems transformation across 10 countries. The study focused on Workstream 1 (policy support and governance), examining how NFP contributed to shaping national policy priorities, strengthening inclusive decision-making processes, and advancing nutrition-sensitive food systems pathways. It employed a theory-based approach, including global and country-level Theories of Change, structured evidence review of programme documents and monitoring data, semi-structured key informant interviews with GAIN staff, government counterparts, and partners, and cross-country synthesis to identify mechanisms of influence, contextual enablers/barriers, causal hotspots, heterogeneous effects, and recurrent patterns. The analysis generated clear, evidence-based contribution stories, prioritized recommendations for GAIN globally and at country level, and provided actionable insights to enhance future policy engagement, scale-up, and replication in similar contexts.
