The Equitable and Inclusive Health and Rehabilitation for Persons with Disability (EIHRPD) project aimed to improve access to health and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities, particularly women and girls, in Savar and Manikganj, Bangladesh. At the project’s inception, rehabilitation services in the country were limited, costly, and not well integrated into the public healthcare system. Many government healthcare providers lacked proper training, and physical inaccessibility to health centers further excluded persons with disabilities. Additionally, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) faced resource constraints, and there was no reliable national database on disabilities. To address these issues, the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) implemented a three-year intervention that included providing therapy and assistive devices, establishing a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) unit at the 250-bed General Hospital in Manikganj, and developing an SCI management module for healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers. The project also strengthened four local OPDs through training, advocacy participation, and income-generating activities. Government efforts were supported through improved data systems, facility accessibility assessments, and awareness campaigns. A research study on government health services for people with SCI was conducted to inform future policy integration. As part of the endline evaluation, dRi conducted 4 FGDs, 12 IDIs, 5 KIIs, 2 case studies, 2 observations, and 384 surveys to assess impact, document achievements, and capture changes brought about by the project.
